What Is Journalism?

Define “Journalism” in 1-3 sentences.
Definition: Current events that are newsworthy; that are published or broadcast to an audience.

List and describe the six criteria of newsworthiness.
TITLE DESCRIPTION & EXAMPLE:
1. timeliness (plane crash in NY)
2. proximity (Australian fires)
3. significant- events (inauguration of new presidents)
4. prominence- people (Abraham Lincoln's birthday)
5. unusual-ness (oct-uplets)
6. human interest (lady with world record fingernails)

What are the advantages of print journalism?
1. more control as a reader
2. more tangible & easier to archive
3. more in depth

What are the advantages of broadcast journalism?
1. interesting to watch (audio/video)
2. more current/available anytime
3. ability to make changes quickly & easily

Why has online journalism (convergent media) become so popular?
it combines print & broadcast journalism together. it allows the reader to control their reading & how in depth they want it to be, it's tangible, prompt, available anytime and able to change quickly.
its the best of both worlds.
